Have you read a book and really loved it solely for the character(s)? I would read a book over again just to spend time with the character! Some characters are just so good and almost lifelike. I feel like they are my friend (it sounds weirder when I say it out loud)! Then there are others that I just hated. They didn’t even do anything wrong they just irritate me. They can be good people and they just make me roll my eyes.
Thomas from “The Maze Runner” series by James Dashner was annoying to me. I probably sound so mean but it’s true! I think that’s why I couldn’t read past some of Death Cure. I watched the movies and thought they were good but beyond that, it was alright.

To give you some context if you aren’t aware of the premise, “The Maze Runner” series focuses on Thomas and the Gladers he meets when he wakes up in the maze. He doesn’t know anything about himself except for his name. He and the Gladers must break out of the maze to figure out what’s really going on and who they are beyond the maze.
He didn’t necessarily do anything that I would have changed per se. I can’t say that I would have done better in his bizarre situation it’s the fact I cannot relate to his character. I think the reason I disliked him was because he didn’t seem to be thinking beyond the moment. It’s difficult to give examples without spoiling but he just wasn’t thinking. He felt spastic and illogical which I hate in characters when I read dystopian books.
I recognize that there may be some people that really like Thomas and thought he was a great character. However, I thought he was boring and unexciting. He also was just dumb with his love life.
Next week, check out my article on my favorite character! I’m pretty excited to talk to you guys about this lovely lady from a good classic.
Is there a character that you just don’t like? Tell me about them in the comments!
