Hello! Welcome to the final post talking about Marissa Meyer’s “The Lunar Chronicle” series. Today, we are doing a two for one review and tackling the final book in Meyer’s series Winter, and her novella Fairest.

Winter is the grand finale to this sci-fi quartet. It’s a whopping 800 and some pages, and all I can say is “It was NEEDED.” So much is happening and there are so many pieces that need to fall into place. We need to see the resolution of this series, which feels so close, but yet so far away. I can’t say too much about it without spoiling the other three books. Often I find the end of a series to be less than enjoyable, but Meyer executed a beautiful resolution that left you satisfied. One thing I really appreciated was that there weren’t any really big lose ends that needed to be tied up when I read the final page! The other thing I can mention is that this book is all about Winter, who is based off of Snow White. She’s the fairest of them all and her Aunt Levana abhors her for it.

Favorite quote in the entire series was in this book!

As far as negative elements to point out, there were some kissing scenes that I would call a bit much. It would be like a page long describing a kiss and I’m not about that life. There was also some swearing if I remember correctly. Not a lot just some here and there.

Okay, now onto Fairest. Nicolette and I debated whether I should bring up this novella. On one hand, it isn’t apart of the original four novels but on the other hand a lot of people will read it. I am here to tell you right now that Fairest is mature and has themes I would not recommend to young teens. I think the rest of the series are decently appropriate for the average teen, but Fairest is dark and nasty much like it’s protagonist.

I think this quote gives you a great feel for Queen Levana’s story

This book follows Levana before she was queen of Lunar and how she became the cold blooded hateful woman we despise throughout “The Lunar Chronicles.” She steals, kills, and destroys anyone who stands in her way and it ends on a heavy note. One of the topics we grapple with, is the idea that in a truly evil person, there is no good. Meyer shows you the festering soul of a true villian and isn’t scared of the ugliness that Levana harbors inside and out.
