Do you guys like quotes? I do. Whenever I read a book, I am usually on the hunt for a quote that really catches my eye. Sometimes that works out and I find one-or one too many- or I find literally nothing. It’s not that I didn’t like the book I just didn’t see anything striking! The opposite can be true for books I thought were pretty pathetic. So, along with these quotes, I’ll let you know what I rated that book out 10 to give you some reference of my thoughts. Get ready to rumble people because here’s some awesome thoughts!

As a whole, I found this verse last year and I didn’t even need to bother memorizing it because it stuck with me. I think we have all found ourselves sitting in darkness at one point in our lives but even though this quote seems somewhat dark there is the reality that the Lord will be the light in our darkness.

I think Americans in particular despise being bothered- by bothered I mean disturbed. We’d all rather sit in our homes under some happy illusion. Lots of people don’t want to believe that their actions have consequences and they don’t like the reality that to every before there is an after. This quote from Ray Bradbury for me, is a constant reminder that being uncomfortable is a positive thing not something that should be avoided. Being bothered causes me to contemplate the important parts of life.

As I am growing up and learning more about the world around me, I have found that even if something is the popular opinion, that does not mean that it is true or something that should be taken seriously.

It is a major trend in our society to be open minded and tolerant (I get so tired of this word). We need to accept everything we are told and embrace everyone, no one is wrong. You need to “find your own truth.” Truth is not subjective but objective, one person does not change what the truth is and I think G.K. Chesterton was thinking on a similar plane when he said this.

Jane Austen will forever have my literary heart. Her works are just so impressive and thoughtful. Emma is a great example of her intellectual prowess. I have loads of quotes that I adore from this novel but this one is fantastic. In life, tenderness of heart really does triumph over charm or wit. I can try to win with charm and intellect but the reality is that the winners are those who are kind and sincere.

C.S. Lewis is another author who has my heart and also has my mind. Even though his works were written around the 1940s or so, they are still so applicable! The Screwtape Letters centers around the demons of Hell and their battle strategies in turnings humans away from God (the Enemy). It’s so well written and this quote has stuck with me for years after reading this book.

So, when I was in middle school I had to write an interpretation of a book and I wanted to do E. A. Poe’s Tell Tale Heart but Mom said it was too dark for younger listeners. So, I went with The Hobbit instead. Nevertheless, this novella introduced me to Poe’s works and really encapsulates the macabre stories that he loved to tell.
Well, that’s some of my favorite quotes! Hopefully these will inspire you to check out some of these books and think back on your own favorite thoughts!
