As school has started to wind down, getting things ready for the upcoming school year has only begun. My last final is tomorrow and then I will be free of this wretched school year, but good news: I got all A’s (or at least it looks like that’ll be the case, things are still being graded)! I killed myself this year trying to get all A’s because last semester I got a B, which I’m still salty about, but that’s all good.
Once I kiss this school year goodbye I have LOTS to do in preparation for going to Judson University in the fall, like applying for loans, going to orientation, figuring out what supplies I need (does anyone have ideas for what I should bring? Put that in the comments!), signing up for classes, etc.. Long story short, I feel SUPER overwhelmed with all I have to do.
Thankfully, with all of this going on, I finally got out of my reading rut with Live Not By Lies. It really was refreshing and was so new, which I needed. What usually gets me out of those pauses is that book that just shocks and impresses me. I need something to get inspired once again. Rekindle my love of knowledge! So, now that I finished Dreher’s book, I have moved on to Ted Dekker’s newest book Play Dead and We Will Not Be Silenced by Erwin W. Lutzer. Both are really good but I’m reading Play Dead more because my brother Nate, my sister Livi and I are all competing to read it faster, with Nate currently in the lead. He says gonna win but we’ll see. I’m simultaneously trying to saver it as well, because once it’s over I will need to go find another Dekker book. But I want to beat them! Whoever finishes it first holds the twists, and the power, so I gotta read swiftly.

We Will Not Be Silenced has been a book much like Live Not By Lies but it touches more on the controversial topics of the last ten or so years, including the 2020 craziness. So far, I wouldn’t say it’s been as hard hitting and, dare I say, edgy but nevertheless excellently written. I think as I charge ahead there will be some great thoughts and things to chew on, which I look forward to!

Play Dead grabbed me the minute I saw the cover. It gives me sort of a Silence of The Lambs feel with the butterfly on the cover. I have no idea if it relates much though since I haven’t ever read the book or watched the movie. Dekker thrusts you into a world where the year is 2049, the pandemic is over and the race wars have run their course. People use virtual reality to escape the current world they are facing and VR is the new drug. Those who use VR constantly and addictively are called “Dead Heads.” One day tradgey strikes and two Dead Heads are discovered dead after they found a VR experience called Play Dead. I’m really excited to see this story unfold and try to anticipate the twists Dekker will throw in. As I continue to read, I have high hopes and I think it’ll be another great book to put on my bookshelf.
Next week, I won’t be posting because I’ll be on vacation so I’ll have a book review out on May 31!
