Hi! I’m Nicolette, I’ve been given the opportunity to be a guest writer for this blog. I’m super excited to share my thoughts with you about this fantastic book by Wayne Thomas Batson! (Also, Happy MLK Jr. day!)

“From Jacob’s dream of the heavenly staircase in Genesis 28 to angels visiting Joseph in dreams in Matthew 1, dreams have been powerful ingredients of God’s plan as revealed through scripture. This fantasy adventure imagines a whole dream world where God’s warriors literally battle evil every night.”

If you’re like me, you’re always in search of books with an intense storyline, so I was very pleased with the book Dream Treaders by Wayne Thomas Batson. The fact that it was a quick weekend read, and had an alternate reality was absolutely fantastic! The way Batson builds the dimension is really easy to visualize, which was so nice, because usually I dread the world-building part of books. As I read through the book, I was able to visualize the universe as Batson unraveled them before me. He also did a great job creating back story and developing character roles that were easy to follow without having to actively dissect what was happening in each scene.

The Nightmare Lord was probably one of the best interpretations of Satan I’ve ever read. He’s this shady character, who is constantly haunting people, and he’s always trying to shatter the perception of the mind just so long that it hurts the Creator, which is actually heartbreaking because you get a front row seat.

Here’s one of my favorite quotes from this book!

I definitely got attached to the character Archer, and  really felt for his predicament when he was faced with obstacles that the Nightmare Lord threw his way. While reading this book I found that I really started to loathe the Lucid Walkers, because they feel as though they are entitled to the dream realm. So, rather than staying out of the realm, they rip themselves in, which causes quite a bit of havoc for the Dreamtreaders. So when Batson threw a little twist in, I couldn’t help but shake my head.

I really felt like the Dreamtreaders were great protagonists, but I definitely felt like there should be more of them since their roles are key to the survival of the worlds. However, Batson designed it so that there can only ever be 3 of them at one time, which is fine, but I definitely felt like there should be more. Overall, it was a really great book, and a perfect start to “The Dreamtreaders” trilogy.
