As I read the words with rapid-fire speed, a thin line of moisture dance along the rims of my eyes. Despite the fact that these people don’t even exist, I can’t help but become emotionally bonded to these totally made-up humans.
There have been books that have made me disheartened. Whether I was angry or wretchedly depressed, books can definitely make me feel deeply! Today, I got a small few that have made me cry. It may have been a single tear or full-on weeping, either way, crying is crying.
Boneman’s Daughters by Ted Dekker
This book tells the tale of a young woman who is kidnapped by a serial killer- titled Boneman- and her military-trained father who races against the clock to save her from a sickening fate. As a daughter, the story of a father giving up everything and risking his life to save his daughter means a lot. The story is a bit extreme but it’s meant to express the love of a father and it later tells an even deeper story.
Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins
If you have read this beloved novel, there’s a very high chance you also cried during this book and possibly all of the others. I haven’t read this book since I was thirteen but I had strong feelings regarding these characters. When Cinna was murdered in front of Katniss, my heart was ripped out! He was the heart of the rebellion in so many ways yet remained behind the scenes. I didn’t see it coming so when I read those words, I was destroyed!
The Bridge to Haven by Francine Rivers
This stylish novel is set in the flavorful 1950s where we meet the exotic beauty Abra, a young girl growing up as the pastor’s daughter. This pastor found her abandoned and decided to bring her home. Because of her abandonment, she is restless all throughout her childhood. When she runs away to Hollywood, she finds that fame is no substitute for love. This book is a prodigal son reimagined and I cried many times. You experience her loneliness with her and her fear of never being accepted back into her family. I would one hundred percent recommend this book to anyone!
Some Honorable Mentions:
Winter by Marissa Meyer, The Bride Collector by Ted Dekker, Night by Elie Wiesel, and finally Wonder by R.J. Palacio.
Thanks for checking out books that made me cry! I probably have a few more but most just made me enraged! I had one I literally threw across the room (gently, though, as not to ruin the book itself).

Is there a book that made you cry? Tell me about it in the comments!
