The Seven Deadly Friendships

Have you had a friend that’s just been the worst? Things just blew up and next thing you know, the person you thought was your friend is just gone. What happened? How did it happen?

The Seven Deadly Friendships by Mary DeMuth is an exceptional read for people who have dealt with a situation similar to the one I described. She goes through seven different types of friends that can be painful or toxic. She gives you examples, common traits, biblical assistance, and shows you how to handle different difficult people. She touches on narcissists, predators, fakers, drama queens, and so many others that we meet and interact with throughout our lives.

I would give this book a ten out of ten, hands down. Even though this is a faith based book, I would recommend this to any person interested in psychology or learning how to handle tough relationships. I just adored this book, I have returned to it so many times because of the breakdown of each type of person. Beyond that, DeMuth at the end talks about Biblical accounts of people who run into psychopaths or fakers. She particularly goes into Jesus’ life and the rough time he had with friendships. This specifically meant a lot to me!

The only comment I would make is that this may be heavy for people who have recently been wounded by a friend. On top of that, DeMuth doesn’t shy away the possibility you or I could be one of these types, which may be hard to read. If you have a teen read this that’s in Middle School, I would probably recommend talking to them about it because it may be difficult to read at times. Other than that, fantastic!

Thanks for checking out today’s article! Seriously, you guys have got to read this book! Mary DeMuth did a beautiful job and I plan to try some of her other books when I get a chance.
