The Negotiator by Dee Henderson

Hello everyone! I recently decided to steer away from my usual dystopian genres, and enter the world of Christian, romance, adult fiction. I have never really been into adult novels, (I’d rather read young adult, because they usually have cleaner content) but I thought it would be interesting to try something new, so I picked up Dee Henderson’s six book series The O’Mally Chronicles.

This book was absolutely amazing!! I love it so much. The first chapter threw you right into a bombing threat at a bank. Kate O’Mally (a negotiator) is trying to calm the potential bomber down, and free the hostages. I particularly enjoyed that Henderson did this, because it was different from many books I’ve read. Usually, they introduce the characters, give you a good background story on them, focus on the world building, and THEN they start the ‘drama’ of the series. However, Henderson just threw you right in, and had you fend for yourself while you discover Kate’s background story, while she also, struggles not to fall in love.

Kate’s different from all the women Dave has met. He’s interested in her no doubt, and he wants to know her secrets. There is one problem: Kate O’Mally is not a Christian. So Dave is trying to push aside his feelings for Kate while trying to softly encourage her to give her problems to God. Despite his best efforts, he feels as though he is getting no where.

This is one of my favorite qoutes from this book!

The one upsetting thing about this book was that the rising action was so long, which in a normal case wouldn’t be a bad thing. But when I got four chapters from finishing the book, and I still had so many unanswered questions, I started to freak out!! However, Henderson did a great job wrapping up book one, and in the end, I was so satisfied with the ending, I had to start book two!

Did you like this post? Do you have any genres you recommend? Let me know in the comments!

Sometimes we just have to challenge ourselves with a new gendra. I try to read at least one biography a year just for that reason.
