In a world of kings, queens, and castles, a young man must save the woman he loves from a vicious vampire hellbent on seducing her. With guidance from an old man, Toma will stop at nothing to save Lucine from a horrible fate.
I read Immanuel’s Veins back in 2019 and I still remember it vividly. I needed to brush up on it a bit but Dekker’s descriptions were so on point that when I think back on this book, I literally see images like it was a movie. If you love gothic romance with some thrill then this is your ticket! There’s something so beautiful and treacherous about the gothic backdrop. Immanuel’s Veins has this beautifully treacherous setting. You feel the chill in the air and the darkness of the landscape.
I would say this is definitely an adult novel. Teenagers absolutely could read it, just know there’s a lot of seduction and romance. It’s all done well and it isn’t trashy; it is necessary to the plot. By the end, you see the reasons behind it all. I didn’t look back feeling like I shouldn’t have read it. Once the final page was read, I had a new perspective on Christianity and my relationship with Christ which was awesome!
The vampire genre makes a lot of us think of the Twilight saga and all of it’s weirdness. However, Dekker choose to go with the Catholic exorcism version of vampires and I would say I liked it. I wasn’t sure if I would but it tweaked the vibe of this book to make it all Dekker’s own. Pretty dark and creepy but I liked it! It gave the novel an edge to it.

Immanuel’s Veins by Ted Dekker is a must read for just about anyone on the hunt for a romance that has a deeper meaning than first expected.
Thanks SGT Fun for suggesting the thriller genre for this book review! Hope you guys enjoyed it!
